Atlanta Unleashed: A Dog-Friendly Guide to Atlanta

He’s the happy greeter at the door when you get home from a nail-biting Braves win at SunTrust Park. She’s your favorite pal to binge watch Scandal with. You share your home, your heart and your life with them.

Dogs. From the ground up, they’re pretty special little (or large) creatures. No matter the breed, each and every one tells a unique story with their eyes and loves with their whole heart.

And we love them. Especially in Atlanta, a bustling city brimming with things to do and places to see.

From off-leash dog parks to bars and cafes that allow our four-legged family members to dine with us, Atlanta has it all. A quick search of a fun, pup-friendly page called revealed more than 350 dining options, more than 200 dog-friendly hotels, and dozens of activities and local events.

Here are some of our favorite places and events that are dog-friendly in Atlanta:

Release the hounds at Atlanta dog parks

There’s something about that moment when you first release a dog at a dog park. Though no two dogs react the same, more often than not they’re off to the races the second they are free of that pesky leash. The joy abounds as they race to greet other canine pals, search what you would think is uncharted territory (despite numerous prior trips) and sniffing as far as the eye can see.

Atlanta is home to several area dog parks, including favorites like Piedmont Park and Railside Park, which are both off-leash.

Bone appetit: Dog-friendly restaurants in Atlanta

Out on a long walk with your pup and want to stop for a bite to eat? A surprising number of restaurants, bars and cafes allow dogs to chill with you while you dine al fresco.

One particularly popular spot for pups is ParkGrounds, a clever combination of a coffee shop and a dog park that also offers a menu of breakfast items and sandwiches, and serves beer, wine, and liquor.

Other local favorites, according to, include Brewhouse Cafe and Joe’s on Juniper.

Dog-friendly luxury living in Atlanta

And apartment homes that don’t allow dogs are a thing of the past.

At The Reserve at the Ballpark, for example, we welcome four-legged family members with open arms and loving hearts. We are a pet-friendly luxury apartment community a block away from the beautiful new home of the Atlanta Braves, SunTrust Park.
